The idea to do #HappySeoul occurred after the tragic Sewol disaster, where hundreds of innocent lives, mostly young children, were lost. The atmosphere of the country, especially in Seoul, was so heartbreaking that we felt if we could help alleviate the pain through the art of film and a positive attitude, wed be doing something good. 해피서울을 만들어야겠다는 생각을 한 것은 세월호가 침몰하여 어린 학생들을 포함한 많은 분들이 안타깝게 목숨을 잃었을 때 였습니다. 그 당시 한국의 분위기는 말하기 힘들 정도로 처참했고, 제가 살고 있는 서울 역시 큰 슬픔에 잠겨 있었습니다. 그래서 무언가 제가 할 수 있는 일들로 축 처진 이 분위기를 고취시켜보자는 생각이 들었습니다. It is ironic that a video titled #HappySeoul is our response to one of the saddest chapters in Koreas recent memory, however, being someone who has lost dear friends and family to tragedies myself, I also believe that when an innocent life is lost, celebrating their life and the joy and happiness they brought to the world is far more meaningful than filling oneself up with anger over the cause. 저 역시 인생에서 가족이나 절친한 친구를 잃어본 사람으로서, 우리 곁에 있던 소중한 누군가를 잃었을때 그 사람이 왜 떠나야했는지에 대해 분노하게 되고, 다른 누군가를 원망하고 싶은 마음도 크지만, 그 존재가 살아생전 세상에 주었던 많은 긍정적인 에너지를 축복하고 기억하는 것 또한 의미 있는 일이라고 생각합니다. 현재 대한민국의 슬픈 상황에 반대로 아이러니하게 뮤직비디오의 타이틀은 해피서울인 것이 이런 이유에서 입니다.
