The idol of Dhari Devi was shifted on Sunday as the rising waters of the Alaknanda river threatened to submerged the temple due to the increased flow of water from the outlet of Srinagar Alaknanda hydro power project dam. The temple committee was earlier against shifting the idol before July 4 as astrologically, Jupiter was yet to ascend. However, they relented and shifted the idol lest it be damaged by the rising waters of the river which had submerged the temple premises on Sunday. Pauri District Magistrate Chandresh Yadav said that the members of the temple committee talked with him on Sunday afternoon and sought security for the temple. Kumar said that he has advised the committee to shift the idol to a safe place before the waters of river submerge it. He suggested that they ignore the astrological factors and shift the idol without delay. Srinagar police station SO Anil Joshi said that preparations have been made to shift the idol with a crane. Joshi said that the preliminary work for shifting the idols of the goddess and other deities to the new shrine was started on Sunday. The Srinagar Tehsil sub divisional magistrate Razza Abbas said that police force has been deployed near Dhari Devi premises. He said that the water level is rising due to the consistent downpour. The temple committee started shifting the various items from this shrine after which the idol of the Goddess was also shifted after ceremonial worship and other rituals.
