The ignorant author of 11 books has in a recent post on JK News Service (JKNS) while referring to the state of Israel said Israel is the name of death in Islam (Astagfirullah). Apparently, he doesnt know difference between Israel and Azrael (the angel of death) or that Prophet Yaqub (يَعْقُوب) or Jacob (AS) is a prophet in Islam who is mentioned as many as 16 times in the Quran and is also known as Israel. That alongside fellow Hebrew prophets and patriarchs as an ancient and pious prophet who remained in the company of the elect. Muslims hold that Jacob was the son of Isaac (AS) and that he preached the Oneness of God throughout his life. As in Christianity and Judaism, Islam holds that Jacob (AS) had twelve sons, each of which would go on to father the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The Quran further makes it clear that Allah (SWT) made a covenant with Jacob (AS) and he was made a faithful leader by His command. The notion of the Land of Israel, known in Hebrew as Eretz Yisrael, has been important and sacred to the Jewish people since Biblical times Why Yaqub (AS) or Jacob was called Israel Exactly why or when was Prophet Yaqub(AS) assigned or given the name ‘Israel’ is known to Allah (SWT) alone. There are several Jewish and Biblical traditions regarding the change of name of the Noble Prophet Yaqub (AS) from the Old Testament and the Bible. Israel or in Hebrew ‘Yisra-El’ is derived from two Hebrew root words: ‘Yisra’ meaning to strive or struggle; and ‘El’ means God….thus the literal meaning of the Hebrew term Israel would mean ‘he who struggles with God and with men’ and it was a name apparently given to Prophet Yaqub (AS) after he apparently (Astagfirullah-I seek refuge in Allah from even saying this) wrestled with God, as stated according to Jewish tradition and in the Bible in the Book of Genesis 32:22-32. As far the angel of death: Azrael or Azraaiyl also known as Malak al-maut (Judeo-Christian, Azrael), is the angel of death. He is responsible for parting the soul from the body. He is only referred as malak al-maut, meaning angel of death, in the Quran.
