The illusion of a two-state solution to Israels 67-year-war on the - TopicsExpress

The illusion of a two-state solution to Israels 67-year-war on the Palestinian people is withering on the vine. That was apparent long before tonights failure by the corrupt and unelected Palestinian Authority to score even a moral victory by securing a majority of UN Security Council members in support of a draft resolution, even though the resolution would have, as usual, been vetoed by the US through its vile permanent representative, Samantha Power. The UN is not the route to a solution to the ongoing oppression of the Palestinians by the criminal and genocidal state of Israel. Neither, of course, is any appeal to the US to act within the letter of international law and to stop providing cover for the repeated commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the Israelis, which have been perpetrated with the full support of the US. One route available is for the Palestinians to accede to the Rome Statute, as they are entitled to, and to press charges against Israel for those war crimes and crimes against humanity. But to do that the Palestinian people would need to be represented by a government that was moral and resolute, and in the Palestinian Authority those qualities are not to be found. The other route is through international pressure from governments but particularly by the people of the world who are increasingly rallying to the cause of the Palestinian people. That is how Apartheid South Africa was dismantled. It is how Zionism will be defeated. 2015 must see a redoubling of our efforts to promote the BDS campaign - Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions - to tighten the squeeze both on Israel and on international companies that trade with Israel. And in 2015 we should refuse to see the mirage of the two-state solution. It was never intended to be anything other than a mirage. The only viable permanent solution is a single truly democratic state - and that demands of the Palestinian people more generosity than they should be expected to display, given their long suffering and their terrible losses. But then the Palestinians have always been a generous, fully human people. They deserve their full human rights, and we must do what we can to help them achieve that. BDS!
