The impasse between tbe federal government and tbe Academic Staff - TopicsExpress

The impasse between tbe federal government and tbe Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU is becoming fiercer and quite depressing. The consistent industrial actions in our varsity system have brought so many unquantifiable ills to the students who oftentimes bear the consequences. The Political jockeying-like attitude exhibited by both parties towards resolving the dispute infers tbe magnitude of their insensitivity to the development of the education sector.Little wonder why the country has continue to remain so glued to the backbench role of advancement in this 21st century.Of course a nation that takes the education of its citizenry with levity must be prepared to face some potential repercussions that will no doubt overstretch the whole system beyond its maximum limits. You can be rest assured that with such, the extent of the damage on the society itself is better imagined than experienced. In the light of this,we are making a clarion call to the aggrieved parties to as a matter of urgency get back to the negoitation table and settle this impasse once and for all.The repulsive mentality shown by both parties is unnationalist to the core and very detrimental to the total emancipation of the nation from its upheavals. The 2009 consensus reached by both parties is no longer implementable due cogent reasons; few of which are quite understandable.Since the agreement is becoming too overbearing and highly demanding for the federal government to meet up with, there is no point in ASUU prolonging the industrial action. There is the need to map out a fresh wholesome agreement that will be implemented to the core. However, there are certain clauses in that 2009 agreement that need to be sustained in case both parties finally decide to bury their hatchet. And i would even subscribe tbat such an holistic agreement should be constitutionally backed this time around to avert any political unseriousness by the federal and state governments respectively.ASUU should reason with this piece of advice and indeed word of wisdom by showing genuine commitment, dedication and determination to resolving the dispute permanently. Our university system should be seen as an instrument of construction and not destruction. The Lingering impasse does no one good either;it is hightime we put a permanent stop to this crass bedeviling the glowing and illustrious future of our children.Id hope this increasing plea made by all and sundry will make both parties to speedy reach a compromise without any further trading of blames or aspersions.
