The implications of this discovery are astronomically important. Weve found a giant rock planet orbiting a sun that is almost as old as the universe itself; if you can make rock (minerals) you can make life. Our planet is 3.5-4.5 billion years old, this planet is over 10 billion years old. If planets like earth have been around three times longer than us, than there is almost certainly an alien species that has mastered technology and became a race of machines. Somewhere in the universe, there is an ancient species of machines that grew from some animal or another; this is terrifying and awe inspiring. If we could only see them, it would be the same as looking into our future. Regardless of origin all super technology will be based off of efficiency and would therefor be uniform throughout the universe.
