The importance of Technology in the present times can hardly be over emphasized. IEEE-NUCES Lahore Student Branch aims to raise consciousness of science and technology among the potential students. It is our prime objective to promote awareness regarding new technological innovations. The branch organizes a number of events to achieve its objective. IEEE Week is considered as one of the biggest Computer Science and Engineering extravaganzas, in Pakistan. IEEE Week 2014 is the premier forum for advancement in technology. The event-packed week brings together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to explore their shared interests in tools, techniques, and gadgets. We are inviting everyone to participate in IEEE Week by sharing their research, insights, experiences and enthusiasm. Competitions & exhibitions Game-Dev Marathon Mega Idea Competition Robo-Navigation Wall Maze following Line following Multi-Copter Competition Speed Wiring Junk Creativity Spellathon Math Geek Seminars & Workshops Social Events Movie Night Talent Hunt Scavenger Hunt Fun Activities Theme Dinner Carnival The details of the above mentioned events are enclosed with this letter. After the success of a series of previous events, targeting universities from all over Pakistan, we are resolute to organize an even better event this year. The event is scheduled to be held on 20th – 22nd March, 2014 at FAST-NUCES Lahore. On behalf of IEEE Lahore Student Branch, we cordially invite your prestigious institute to participate in this year’s IEEE WEEK. We want to make sure your institute actively contributes in this technological event. Your presence will be highly appreciated. Yours sincerely, Muhammad Ateeq Azam Mehak Jamal Dr. Amjad Hussain General Secretary Chair, IEEE-NUCES Branch Councilor Mob: 0333-6037007 MODULES Robo-Navigation Competition It will be a battle against the clock. This year our robotic competitions will consist of two major events; wall maze following and line maze following. Witness the advancement of machines in intelligence. What could be more exciting than watching a robot figure out a maze and get to the finish line? We will provide the cheering mad crowd, and the tech wizards will provide the machines. The event is of knock-out format, robots will be competing against the clock for maximum points. There will be a lot of turns and dead ends in the maze. Points will be awarded to cross check points in the maze and points will be negated when the robots enters the dead-ends. Multi-Copter Competition This year our robotic competition will also include flying robots. Recently, Multi-Copter designs have become very popular in unmanned aerial vehicles. The participating copters are used for navigation as well as special reconnaissance purposes but for us it is the excitement of watching robots fly above. So bring your multi-Copters and make us marvel at the technology and the sheer genius in your design. Mega-Idea Competition The Mega Idea Competition is designed by IEEE-NUCES team for Undergraduates who have great profit or non-profit ideas and are looking to capitalize them. All tech-business ideas are welcomed, including those that are targeting social and environmental issues. No actual business plan is needed. We just require you to convince us. Your idea could be the next big thing! This activity is an entrepreneurial idea competition in which finalists present to a panel of expert judges along with students, faculty, alumni, entrepreneurs, investors, and program sponsors. If you are someone who ever dreamt of an idea of their own, it is the perfect platform to showcase for your ideal. Game-Dev Marathon Gaming always draws intense interest from spectators. But this year, we are giving a chance to all those crazy gaming lovers to bring their ideas into reality by developing them into games. Game-Dev Marathon is evolved from the idea of consecutive lengthy hours of application development. The participants would be provided with the opportunity to show their skills of programming and enter to win exciting prizes. It is all condensed into a 36 hour development cycle. This encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute in game development. IEEE-NUCES will provide the place, Internet connectivity, food and other essential facilities to the teams. Workshops & Seminars To enhance knowledge, skills and provide students with the opportunity to learn and interact with some of the best personalities of the country, workshops, conferences and seminars will be conducted. To boost confidence and get expert guidelines on various corporate level issues, these workshops will not only enable students to get involved in discussions but also to build networks with these professionals. These workshops and seminars will provide you with a peek in the professional life by helping you interact with professionals from different technical backgrounds. There are two workshops in IEEE Week 2014. Workshop on Robotics The theme of the workshop is to introduce new and exciting areas of research in, in-field and off-road robotics. The workshop will provide introduction along with hands-on experience to the development of autonomous ground vehicles for outdoor and off-road applications, in robotics such as agricultural automation, landmine clearance, autonomous surveillance, terrain mapping and exploration. Topics covered in the workshop will include software and hardware architectures, sensing and perception, mapping and localization, terrain classification, transversal and navigation, and other issue related to the development of autonomous field robots. Workshop will feature tutorial, mini-courses and research presentations by experts in filed robotic from the University of Kaiserslautern. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for robotics researchers in Pakistan to exchange ideas and develop new collaboration in this emerging area. Workshop on Kinect: IEEE NUCES with the collaboration of Microsoft is providing you an opportunity to experience the new world of motion-sensing technology provided with Kinect for Windows. Kinect for Windows transforms how people interact with computers and enables the experimentation of rich natural user interface applications that use Microsoft Kinect technology. Spellathon This event is mainly focused at student of grades 8 to 11. This war of minds will be between the students of one of the best schools of Lahore. The students will be given a catalogue to memorize from which they will be asked words to spell out. So all you little ones out there, get ready to impress us with your learning skills and take away the cash prizes we have in store for you. Junk Creativity One of the arts an engineer needs to possess is creativity. Be it an Electrical, Computer Science or a Civil engineer, one needs to be creative enough to use junk items and transform them into useful gadgets. So yes, that’s right! This is exactly what this competition is about! You will be given a topic and a fixed time, with material from which you’ll have to make a structure. It could be anything as long as you can convince the judge how it fits onto the theme. This is open to students of grade 8 to 11. Math Geek This particular competition will be involving math and technology related questions and will be comprising of three stages having knockout basis. Difficulty level of each stage will be higher than the previous one. This competition is open for all students till F.Sc or A-Levels. Social Events You will all need to unwind after a full day of watching your robots as it finds the way out of a maze or beating everyone in a gaming marathon or maybe selling your Mega Idea to the highest bidder. What would be a better way than attend our exciting and fun social events? Our events have everything in store for you! From food to entertainment, everything has been taken care of. So this year as always we are introducing social events to help participants relax and also indulge in some extracurricular activities. We will arrange Scavenger Hunt, Nescafe Basement and a themed formal dinner.
