The importance of emotions: Emotional Intelligence(EQ) is very important. In young children we expect them to at least recognize the four basic emotions. IQ is like a car, with intelligence you have all the ability. But no matter how intelligent you are, without EQ you cannot start the car and cannot keep it on the road. In short: EQ assist in knowing what to do with IQ.All of us are faced with ourselves, our emotions, fears etc. together with others emotions in our workplace and at home. Thus EQ aim to teach us to know our own feelings and in that learn to understand others better. If you know what angers you, and how you feel your anger. You can calm yourself and therefore not start shouting or screaming at others and in the process hurt others or yourselves. There are alott of very intelligent people that cannot function in any workplace and they sit without an income. And again there are many people with an average intelligence that is very successful because their emotional intelligence are so high. We want to make sure our children have both a high EQ and IQ. You can assist your child in recognizing emotions by commenting on their own and your emotions. Example: Mommy is angry because the dog chewed my shoe, or, it looks like you are happy because you are smiling. You can also ask your child daily how they feel in their heart. And then also tell them with limitation how you feel (keep it simple, do not explore complicated emotions as yet). When you watch a dvd, pause the scenes and ask your child what emotions they see in the character and why.
