The importance of history is to give context to solutions we use today. Many solutions of the past were devised to solve a specific problem. This problem may be perceived differently today than it was when first created. Often the old solutions were devised base on imperfect understanding and incorrect correlation of relationships derived from the limit of the sciences (or technologies) of that time. In this way history gives us clues into what people were thinking so that we might develop our own solutions instead of taking marginal steps and half measures devoted to a past remedy ill suited to this present time.
