The initiative for a broad socialist organisation called Left Unity, by socialist film director Ken Loach, is the most promising attempt to build a serious left-wing force in Britain for ages, capable of winning mass support (much like UKIP has done on the right and Syriza has done on the left in Greece). It already has nearly 9,000 supporters, more than the rest of the far left in Britain put together. However, for it to become very successful, I (Steve Wallis) think it is essential for revolutionaries within Left Unity to unite together, rather than squabble among themselves (with the primary aim of recruiting to their own particular revolutionary socialist organisation).
