The instructional use of 3D printing has taken-off within the AGCS - TopicsExpress

The instructional use of 3D printing has taken-off within the AGCS STEM Center! Recently, Susan Deering, an AGCS 5th grader, was working with her classmates on a project involving model wind turbines as part of the AGCS STEM curriculum. However, as Susan completed the project she realized that if the blades of the model wind turbine models were redesigned, they would spin more effectively and produce more electricity! With the help of Ms. Akintoye, Mr. Sharkey and some public-domain CAD-design software, Susan was able to design a fabricate her own set of tweaked turbine blades. You can see Susans blades taking shape on our 3D printer in photo #1. What other school encourages 5th grade students to apply engineering concepts and exercise their inventive instincts the way we do at AGCS? The second photo included in this post shows a set of tools that students printed which will be used to service the 3D printer. The final photo shows a snap-on tool cozy students created to keep 3D printing accessories organized. If this kind of instructional approach excites you, PLEASE help us to acquire new fabrication resoruces by contributing to our current 3D printing appeal!
