The interest in our free-to-view painting tutorial series, which is currently still wet on Paul’s easel, is quite amazing – SO WE’RE THRILLED TO BE ABLE RELEASE PART 3 [Part 4 is in the can and will be uploaded as soon as possible; although there are a number of stages yet to be painted and filmed] – Out and About with Paul - in Acrylics – Part 3 – ERPA 2013 Annual Ploughing Match PART 3 sees Paul continuing with the first structural layer as he moves on to the MAIN HILLS at the rear of the composition, the CLUMP OF TREES THAT SURROUND THE WHITE HOUSE, the far DISTANT SUN-DRENCHED STUBBLED FIELD – finishing off with slashes of colour that represent the perimeter hedge. HE CONCENTRATES ON TWO PRINCIPAL COLOUR MIXES – GREENS AND ORANGES. Once again, directional brush-strokes are exploited to maximum effect to suggest the swathes of trees that make up the forest plantation; firstly capturing the greens of the evergreen spruces, then the autumnal coppers and golds of large tracts of larches and deciduous trees. THIS IS AN OBJECT LESSON IN COLOUR MIXING and MAXIMISING BRUSH-STROKES TO SUGGEST INDIVIDUAL ELEMENTS WITHIN A COMPOSITION. The value of the complementary red underpainting continues to come into its own, setting off the greens to striking effect. This was not about completing the painting in one sitting; this was about getting as much completed as possible before returning to the studio to finish the painting off – THE SERIES OF TUTORIALS IS ABOUT IMPARTING AS MUCH USEFUL INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE FOR ANYONE WISHING TO FOLLOW THIS AS A MEANINGFUL TUTORIAL. You will learn about colour mixing, the role of complementary colours, how to exploit brush-strokes to capture the rhythms of masses and within individual elements, how to work wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry, the impact and absolute necessity of negative painting and much much more. AS WITH ALL OF PAUL’S TUTORIALS, THIS SERIES IS PACKED FULL OF HINTS, TIPS AND TECHNIQUES – AS YOU ARE GUIDED THROUGH THE TECHNIQUE OF WORKING FROM DARK TO LIGHT. Filmed in real-time (catch every stroke and colour mix), a complete set of tutorial films charting this acrylic painting from start-to-finish; in which Artist & Author Paul Taggart captures the essence of the annual ploughing match staged by the Easter Ross Ploughing Association in 2013. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Novar Estate in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, with the profile of Fyrish monument outlined against the sky, the ploughing match proved an inspiring subject for this year’s fund-raising Prize Draw painting (donated by Paul Taggart to the ERPA committee). https://youtube/watch?v=zeQdox0G448
