The interesting thing about comedians is that theyre smarter than they seem. In order to do comedy, you usually need to be more observant than most people and also be better at figuring out if the stuff youre seeing makes sense. So, it should come as no surprise that Chris Rock has some very insightful things to say about race in America. Heres a sample: [in reference to the notion that Obama represents progress for black people]... Thats not black progress. Thats *white* progress. Theres been black people qualified to be president for hundreds of years. The question is, you know, my kids are smart, educated, beautiful, polite children. There have been smart, educated, beautiful, polite black children for hundreds of years. The advantage that my children have is that my children are encountering the nicest white people that America has ever produced. Lets hope America keeps producing nicer white people. Ive known this for some time... that progress for black people lies almost entirely in the slow process of *white* America slowly overcoming their prejudice.
