The internationally known a cappella group Pentatonix will perform in concert at Kettering’s Trent Arena on Saturday, November 9, at 7 p.m. Pentatonix, whose YouTube channel (PTXOfficial) has more than 126 million views and 1.5 million subscribers, won Season 3 of NBC’s “The Sing-Off” and performed at the American Music Awards in 2012 (see ptxofficial or on YouTube). The concert, which is open to the public, is the final event of the Kettering Music Department’s National High School A Cappella Festival, which attracts a cappella ensembles from 55 schools located in eight states. Fairmont’s award-winning acapella groups, Eleventh Hour and Fusion, will be the opening acts for the Pentatonix show. Tickets for the Saturday show are $30 for reserved premium seating, $20 for reserved and handicapped-accessible seats, and $15 for general admission seats. Tickets are available at acafest.org or at the Kettering Fairmont box office, 937-499-2647. Tickets will also be available at the door the day of the show. Trent Arena is at 3301 Shroyer Road, in Kettering. “Pentatonix is an international sensation,” said Fairmont High School vocal music director Brody McDonald, who started Fairmont’s a cappella program 12 years ago and is the coordinator of the annual festival. “It’s outstanding that we were able to bring them to Kettering. They’re going to places like Milan, Vienna, Berlin, London, Paris and Anchorage on this tour, but this was a great chance to promote the genre and their group because this area is known to have a great fan base for pop a cappella music. Plus they know Kettering is so much better than Anchorage.” The National High School A Capella Festival features a full day of clinics, master classes and evaluations by some of the top a cappella performers, directors and arrangers in the country. Tickets to a Friday night showcase, which will feature the top eight high school ensembles and the Los Angeles vocal group ARORA (formerly known as SONOS), are $5, and will be available at the door. Show time is 7 p.m. The showcase will be held in the Kettering Performing Arts Center, at 3301 Shroyer Road. “ARORA is a huge name in vocal music,” McDonald said. “They’ve performed at Fairmont three times before to a full house each time, and they’re great with the students at the festival. They’re basically evangelists for this type of music, which has really taken off in popularity in the past five years.”
