The issue of cleaning Ganga is not new and certainly is not brain child of any particular party. Talks of polluted Ganga and engineering efforts to clean it goes far back in to other administrations also. I had the privilege to briefly work with a key engineer of a consulting engineering company of international repute. He was involved in one such study. The assessment of cleaning Ganga at the time was considered a momentous task. And therefor, when Mr. Modi, running from Varanasi emphasized cleaning Ganga in a very highly charged election campaign, it raised peoples hope to another level. It sounded to them that it will be done by next election. Along with other colleagues, we knew doing project of this magnitude, with minimum facilities currently available along rivers path, it was not possible to do it in one election period or even by one government - unless BJP remains in power like Congress did, win at least three consecutive elections.
