The issue of paying college players surfaced again this weekend on ESPN gameday. Desmond Howard was very much for paying players arguing that they provide revenue for the schools and get comparatively nothing in return. One of the “solutions” that seemed to be agreed upon by the group was to put money they may earn off of autographs, jersey sales, endorsements etc… into an account that they would then get AFTER they left. I think that is stupid, as clearly the athletes going to bigger schools with more exposure and money would likely benefit from this the most and thereby create an "uneven playing field" for the rest. Here is my solution. Let players be drafted right out of high school and let them TRY to make money in the pros. Make the NFL, which is making tons of money off these kids, put up money on undeveloped talent. Kids get their quick dollars if they want it. For those who attend college, make it like baseball where it is mandatory to stay for 3 years (I believe). This would quickly show people the value of the college experience for these athletes.
