The joys of Winter days .. Is the sheer diversity of wildlife seen throughout the calm and sheltered waters of Falmouth Bay .. As I looked out across the Bay, in preparation for our four hour cruise today. I was greeted to flat calm seas, blue skies and Great Northern Divers .. Winters days can be so beautiful, with hardly another boat in sight and such balmy and gentle weather conditions. It goes without saying ... I was so excited to be heading out :-) Balmy weather , in fact positively warm !! and its the 1st of December tomorrow .. Never two years the same and certainly not the norm but a welcome bonus, none the less .. :-) The morning BBC news .. Much to my surprise ,, Recording Frogs Spawning on the Lizard Peninsula !! Unbelievable!! Took my by surprise and quite unheard of .. March being the normal time of year for frog spawn ! However, later on in our cruise we were also going to be treated to another wildlife surprise . When we sighted and recorded a lone Manx Shearwater !! Heading East !! This particular bird should be nowhere near us now !! .. It should be way down in the Southern Hemisphere now and down along the coastline of South America .. !! What is going on I ask myself !! Im delighted to share with you all, that recently ... Every trip out has seen us locating and interacting with Common Dolphins .. Always a joy and thrill to share with you all and to hear so many peoples excited exclamations. Whenever we interact and locate Dolphins .. Just fills me with euphoria and a beaming smile .. :-) .. How lucky we are to have Dolphins in our Cornish waters .. From now and right through the Winter, can be some of the very best cetacean watching .. As good numbers of Common Dolphins enter the Western Approaches of the English Channel, to feed on the abundance of bait fish available, in our rich and sheltered bays . With the striking Lizard Peninsula just to the West of Falmouth, offering us so much protection from the worst of the westerly winds and weather . Falmouth Bay and its two beautiful rich estuaries offers some truly spectacular and diverse wildlife throughout the whole year, for us all to see and enjoy . Here is our wonderful list of the wildlife we recorded yesterday.. Common Dolphins. Atlantic Grey Seals . Manx Shearwater. Peregrine Falcons . Kestrel. Purple Sandpipers. Oystercatchers. Ravens. Egrets. Guillemots. Razorbills. Kittiwakes. Rock Pipits. Great Northern Divers. Slavonian Grebes. Quite a diverse and exciting list of species .. :-) Winter migrants are starting to arrive in good numbers now adding a touch of spice and excitement . We will be running our wildlife cruises throughout the festive period. So if you are visiting family or friends down here in Cornwall or Devon and would like to head out offshore .. Please just send us an email to [email protected] or phone 01326 753389 . We will be delighted to hear from you all .. Have a wonderful weekend everyone .. It was a fun filled four hours yesterday and such a thrill to get so many of you out and offshore with me on Free Spirit .. To share so much beautiful and diverse wildlife with you all and Common Dolphins :-) Especially in such beautiful sunshine, still and balmy, positively warm conditions .. All with such clear crystal seas.. Delightful .. Just delightful :-) Thanks for all your fabulous support everyone . :-) CK :-)
