The key fact is this - per capita spending on transport - TopicsExpress

The key fact is this - per capita spending on transport infrastructure comes out at: south-west £215, north-east £246, Yorkshire and Humberside £303, north-west £839, London £4895.. Thats not a typo. Thats how much London is sucking out of the rest of the country. For somewhere thats supposed to be such an economic engine, it seems to need a hell of a big subsidy. The level of arts subsidy in London runs at about five times what the rest of England gets - Im sure the tourists visiting the west end appreciate it, but to the population of Newcastle or Hull it must be astoundingly galling. blogs.spectator.co.uk/alex-massie/2013/12/london-is-different-the-government-will-spend-money-there/ Anyone have any figures for the rest of the UK?
