The key idea here is that your conversation is NOT private if you are in public and engaging strangers (like serviceworkers) - and exposure to others judgment and criticism may cause you to reconsider how justified your public behavior is. Perhaps even consider how you might judge another person if you saw them acting out instead of doing so yourself. This actual fued is a mountain out of a molehill, but the conversation around it is one worth having in America. The aggressor (Gale) actual wasnt acting out of agression; simply using the language that would shame the complainer most, in his view. He states himself, he was only annoyed and tried a social experiment. The complaining passenger was treating others with unreasonable and unnecessary disrespect, as though she were above them as humans, she was the real aggressor, and got a taste of her own medicine. Instead of reflecting on how her bad behaviour had attracted such an unexpected response, she escalated; engaged him in his game, and lost publicly. I genuinely hope she learned something, though I have my doubts. And though I might have done it differently than he did (Gale), Im on his side of the argument. The real bully was the passenger harassing those around her for no good reason. And the best way to deal with bullies....smack them down hard.
