The key to me completing yesterdays 140.6 mile triathlon, besides - TopicsExpress

The key to me completing yesterdays 140.6 mile triathlon, besides following a childhood dream, the intense training, commitment, financial resources, etc. was the moral SUPPORT I received from family and friends (especially on FaceBook) who wanted to see me succeed. I thank you all, truly. There were times during the race that I encountered challenges I had not encountered during training or previous triathlons that had me seriously considering quitting. At mile 95 all my toes felt like they were on fire and it was painful to pedal up the steep hilly and very hot course. Then my energy level plummeted to the point where my strength was at 70% and even if I did finish I still had a marathon to do. I thought abut your hopes and wishes for me to complete this most monumental task and it motivated me to push on to somehow finish the bike portion and man-up and slug it through the not-flat-at-all marathon. I want to thank my family Katie FLowers Vesperas and kids for putting up with my long training days and night, spin instructor Erika Lee Eberhart for the tough workouts that built my endurance, Coach Kawika Carlson and his running group for teaching me to run long distances and making me smart on nutrition during races, Coach Brian Carr, Richard Varley, swim coaches Joy and Aussie Taylor and my Tri-Ohana at Team Triplefit Hawaii for turning me into a badass triathlete, Angela Kwong and the Soul Runners for bullying, I mean influencing me to sign up for Vineman, Team Hawaii Vineman for the positive encouragement during the race, and my ole military buddy Mike Szkodzinski who was my vital triathlon support team in California. Mahalo Nui Loa all!
