The key to my poem This is Not Foma. BOKONON, the religion in Cat’s Cradle, by Kurt Vonnegut Karass - a team doing God’s will, without knowing it. Kan-kan - the instrument which brings you into your karass. Wampeter - pivot which karass revolves on. There are two: one waxing, one waning. Vindit - sudden, personal shove in direction of believing God has elaborate plan for me. Wrang-wrang - one who steers you away from a line of speculation by reducing , thru an example in his own life, to an absurdity. Sinookas - the tendrils of one’s life. Duprass - a karass of two people. It cannot be invaded. Granfalloon - a false karass, meaningless in terms of the way God gets work done, eg, Rotary, USA, Communist Party. Stuppa - fogbound child. Duffle - destiny of many people who are placed in the hands of a stuppa. Saroon - (verb) to acquiesce to the demands of your vindit. Sinwat - one who wants all of someone’s love. Foma - harmless lies that may serve a good purpose. Bokomaru - the supreme act of worship of the Bokononists, which is an intimate act consisting of prolonged contact between the naked soles of the feet of two persons. Zahmahkibo - fate, inevitable destiny. Poolpah - wrath of God or “shitstorm.” Busy, busy, busy – what a Bokononist whispers whenever he thinks about how complicated and unpredictable the machinery of life really is.
