The ladies that are taking part in my #AlphaFemale programme are absolutely smashing it. Im so proud of them. Just wrote a quick overview as to why I have started the nutrition plan as a low carb diet but will cycle carbs as the weeks go on. Thought I would share it with you guys too... Some of you mentioned that your struggling with low carb, and yes its tough, Im eating low carb at the minute as well and yes sometimes its sucks!!! I just wanted to explain the reasons behind low carb diets and how it works. Carbs are not an essential nutrient... there I said it. We need/have essential fats and essential proteins but theres no such thing as essential carbs. That doesnt mean to say they dont have there place. A lot of the time, mainly due to our typical western diet of highly processed high sugar foods, we end up over stimulating our insulin production (from the pancreas). When we intake a carbs insulin is realised into our blood and it can either store this sugar as fat or sift it into your muscles. (Im going to have to generalise here otherwise I will end up writing a dissertation lol) A person that is overweight, has a bad diet etc will store these carbs as fat and put them into the muscle cell. This is whats called carb resistant. You become carb resistant when you over stimulate the pancreas and insulin production and your body just keeps storing the carbs as fat as the cells are full to the brim. A low carb diet will take the strain away from this over stimulated pancreas and help it rest. Now that you have taken carbs out, your making your body rely on fats and protein... awesome!!! Protein will always be accepted into the muscle cell and can even be used as energy if enough is taken in. Fats will help support and maintain hormonal function instead of giving it peaks and troughs like carbs. Fast forward a few weeks, you have minimised your carb intake for the last few weeks, you have given your body a rest from exhausting insulin, youve made your body run on fats and protein and you probably have lost bodyfat... awesome! Now is the time to have a high carb meal. Because your deprived of carbs for the last few weeks you should now be carb sensitive. When your body is in a real sensitive state it metabolises everything!! So if you have your high carb meal/day, insulin will get realised as always, but it will bring the carbs to the cells as fuel, not store it as fat. This process is called carb cycling. Its a very effective way of making your body flip back and forth between being fat fuelled and carb fuelled. There is much much more within this topic, but I just thought id give you a brief over view of the way i have laid out the nutrition plan the way I did.
