"The landscape that death metal has – if I take the parallel - TopicsExpress

"The landscape that death metal has – if I take the parallel with Penderecki’s music, it’s always very minor with harmonies, not much perfect fifth in there. It’s very somber. Very dark and melancholic. That’s why death metal appeals to me. I find it very colorful to express yourself. I don’t feel that death metal is stuck within very strict aesthetic components in the compositional language, so you’re kind of, after two or three beats or riffs, you’ve kind of said it all [laughs]. I think it’s a very rich canvass for experimentation, and if it’s done with taste it’s always gonna work. That’s why I prefer this type of metal, because as much as it can sound like the type of metal that’s stuck within cliché, I think it’s one of the types of metal which is as free from cliché…if you take it from an experimenting point of view.
