The last 22nd May, the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research - IREC organized a workshop: "Assessment tools for nearly zero energy buildings - nZEB", in the framework of two European projects, AIDA (IEE) and MARIE (Programme MED). The workshop took place in the CONSTRUMAT fair in Barcelona, where the main companies and association of the building sector are received. The focus of the workshop was the presentation of different energy simulation and assessment tools that could be applied in the field of nZEB. The session started with an introduction of the nZEB concepts done by Jaume Salom (IREC). In addition, he presented a NZEB assessment tool, developed in the IEA-SHC (task40.iea-shc.org/net-zeb). After that, different simulation tools were introduced in order to have a general view of the different possibilities: dynamic simulation, BIM software and urban planning simulation tools (by AIGUASOL, CYPE Ingenieros and BEE GROUP-CIMNE). There were around a hundred attendants to the event. The workshop concluded with an interesting discussion about the European and national directives regarding the energy efficiency in buildings and the renewable energies, and the issues and concerns of the current situation of Spain in this area.
