The last night we spent in Lincoln County was just outside Rachel. Rachel is the epicenter of the Area 51/Extraterrestrial Highway thing. There is a small community there that sits in the middle of Sand Spring Valley. We spent the first half of that day in Delamar so we didnt arrive in Rachel until late afternoon. We stopped in and had a beer at the Lil Ale Inn which I think is almost mandatory. Since we werent going anywhere, we had a second. I was amazed that just about every car that was driving by stopped in. Most came in and bought some of the souvenir items they sell there. I think of the 8 or 9 folks that came in, they each spent around $100. I always take my hat off to folks who can find a way to make a living in a place that otherwise would not allow for it. They have really found a niche. That night we camped by some old corrals a distance from town. My buddy Tom really wanted to see the lights of Area 51. Well, that really didnt work out seeing that everybody was in bed by 9:30. Those dreamland folks should be more considerate of us old timers and do their secret stuff at a more reasonable hour. The next day, Sunday, we packed it in and had a nice breakfast at the Lil Ali Inn. Pat, one of the owners whipped us up the best breakfast in 100 miles. Im impressed with her little operation here. This is her website which gives you up to the date information on the doings of Rachel. littlealeinn/ Time to wrap up the Lincoln County expedition. Considering I was there only about 5 1/2 days, I was able to come up with 14 days worth of stories and pictures. I am either way to verbose or I see more things than most people do. Either way, thanks for reading my work.
