The last of my Christmas Verses - Christmas Eve Through the mist and through the snow Through driving rain or in moon glow The Christmas lights are shining bright To brighten up each wintry night Neon Santa scales a slate-tiled roof Whilst an electric reindeer paws a hoof The sleigh embarks on its nightly glimmer And shrouds of frost cause trees to shimmer Laser beams pierce the darkened sky Proclaiming Christmas Day is nigh Hark - do herald angels sing ? No its just some revellers doing their thing Pronouncing love and joy to all Out on the pull and having a ball Theyre heralding the break of dawn As they head for home before the morn A Snowman standing by a garden gate Is a silent witness to their sorry state A frozen, dignified and majestic sight His coal-black eyes stare into the night Merry Christmas they call but get no reply Doffing their party hats as they pass by Enforcing a less than dashing pose Theyve hung tinsel garlands upon his nose Hes alone once more, revellers gone to ground And the crisp new morn brings a brand new sound Whilst merrymakers snore from within their beds The young and the old now raise their heads Houses brim with excitement and childish glee As presents are opened around the tree And the old bones rasp like rusting metal As old codgers shuffle to fill their kettle Then break their fast and take their pills Assess themselves for any new ills Medicate further - to protect the man inner In order to relish their Christmas Dinner BY GWEN LEES
