The last three days have been filled with giggles, cuddles, and long talks. Weve wandered the Mall, dangled our feet in fountains, discussed our place in the greater community and the world, and ate ice cream as a main course. The Child directed tourists on the metro, requested to visit dat place with da art dats not really art (The Hirshhorn...modern art isnt for everyone, but apparently its for her), played every game at Chuck E. Cheese although often the tickets were forgotten, actually teared up holding a pupa of a hornworm in the process of becoming a butterfly, and slid down a slide with her eyes closed, head thrown back, and her arms in the air embracing the last breaths of summer. Weve watched mindless cartoons with our legs tangled together, and drank Starbucks as the sun slowly rose. Every moment is locked in my memory. I feel so incredibly blessed to have this time with her, and to be able to spend the last moments of summer before she embarks on her next adventure. I love this kid so much. Were ready for you, 2nd grade.
