The last time Reagan and I were at Kirklin Clinic it was for testing to determine the extent of her bladder/kidney issues and what the next steps would be. She has Grade IV (the worst) reflux from her bladder back up into her kidneys. Sorry - if you dont like gory details skip to the bottom. Her kidneys somehow manage to work ok, but just ok. Every time she gets a UTI it causes more damage. The reflux, obviously, needs to be eliminated. She is going to have an outpatient procedure next Wednesday at UAB Highlands called a deflux. They will inject collagen into the base of the ureters where they connect to the bladder to plump the opening up to make it more of a one-way valve. This, hopefully, will minimize or stop the reflux. The other alternative - sure to work - is a major open surgery to totally reconstruct the bladder system. Months of recuperation. No, we chose this option first and are praying it works. Gory details over. Please pray for her surgeon and a good outcome for her. She is very apprehensive about the whole thing. I personally am not a fan of UAB (there I said it) but they have the track record and weve had difficulty finding someone who wants to treat her, so challenging is her condition. I know this is a long post. Thanks for all your love and concern.
