The last time my alternator went kablooey (different car), we were in Alabama just over the Mississippi border. It was me, my parents and all three kids in car seats on our way home from a funeral, and we managed to limp the van into town, a ramshackle (thats overstating it) convenience store surrounded by stray dogs, the theme from Deliverence playing in the background, etc. As it happened, phone service was down in the area, so the owner of the store closed up shop (after completing her nebulizer treatment!) and drove to fetch the only mechanic for miles around. He came immediately, diagnosed the problem, and then drove over an hour to the nearest auto parts store to pick up the part and then do the repair. He then charged us only the cost of the part!!!! (We gave him more) Which serves as another reminder that theres hope for humanity yet, and I guess I needed that today.
