The last time when Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema were burning was during the Jai Andhra movement in 1971. History seems to have taken a full circle after 42 years with every practical mode of transport, administration, bureaucracy, educational institutes -everything coming to a grinding halt. Compared to December 2009 when political parties were largely behind the agitation, this time around there is no doubt that people themselves have taken up the path of agitation voluntarily involving the cross sections of the whole society. Congress leadership has reportedly underestimated the consequences this time and in case the current indefinite shut down gets out of hand and spirals into violence, then chances are that along with president’s rule, Army will have to enter the region to stem the violence.
