The latest blog news from our honorary Eco - Officer Terry reporting on Autumnal activity in our grounds. ..Temperatures are cooling now from the balmy days of summer as the autumn really takes a hold. Not many plants in flower greeted me on my walk around the grounds, however the autumn colours didnt disappoint! Yellows, gold’s, limes, browns and reds of the leaves filled the trees as they say goodbye until the spring. The evergreens and conifers will come into their prime from now on and through the winter. Around the lake there are bare pockets where some younger trees have been cut down by trespassers unknown, allowing a somewhat restricted view of the lake from the houses along that side. However every cloud has a silver lining and maybe some wild flowers will seize the chance of the extra light provided to shoot up in these areas. Animal activity was few and far between this morning, a few Grey Squirrels and wildfowl on the lake being the total recorded. No need for alarm though as the abundance of berries and fruit produced this last summer still on the trees and shrubs will provide our friends with more than enough food for the coming winter. The pictures, taken on equipment supported through our Community Fund feature: The burst of colour in autumn from this Japanese Maple is a sight for sore eyes and the Cherry tree was particularly striking in the pale autumn sun. Finally, Mr and Mrs Mallard spotted cruising the reed beds...
