The latest developments, in Islamabad, on National Action Plan - TopicsExpress

The latest developments, in Islamabad, on National Action Plan against terrorism vividly indicate that Pakistani government is still unable to create the national consensus due to sectarian influence on Pakistans main stream politics. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharifs remarks on the scope of recently announced special military courts is the clearest manifestation of this assertion. In a high level meeting held in Islamabad to review the progress on implementation of National Action Plan, he maintained that only those cases will be referred to the special courts which relate to hardcore terrorists responsible for mass murder of innocent civilians, children and soldiers of law enforcement agencies. He said special courts are part of the National Action Plan and an extraordinary solution of an extraordinary problem. Question is, has government form a criteria to identify and describe hard core terrorists? who will decide which case to be sent to military tribunal? What about those hard core terrorists who have been involved in sectarian killings? and most importantly, there was nothing said by Prime Minister on the critical issue of forming a counter national narrative against all kinds of terrorism including sectarian terrorism. Denial of ideological space to the terrorism is more important than denying them physical staging areas but it looks like that both political and military leadership of Pakistan is still unable to address this dimension. #Pakistan #Terrorism #PakistanArmy For more news and analysis, like Security & Threat Matrix
