The latest from Hampshire County Council on Colden Common roadworks: Dear Parish Council Representative Earlier in March I contacted you regarding the final phase of Southern Water’s major main renewal works in Colden Common. This note is to confirm that Southern Water will be starting on the 7th April, as planned, and they hope to complete before the end of the Easter Holidays. Southern Water will be working 7 days a week using extended hours. The works are split into two elements; temporary traffic lights will replace the existing lights at the junction with Portsmouth Road. This is to enable them to connect the new main to the existing main. These temporary signals will be manually controlled during peak traffic times (usually 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 18:30) There will also be a full road closure from the roundabout with Church Lane to Scotts Close. Barriers will be erected at the junction with Highbridge Road and access to this section of the Main Road up to Scotts Close will be for local traffic only. The diversion route will be via Church Lane, Brambridge and Highbridge Road. Signs will be erected to help traffic and discourage rat running. Temporary traffic lights may be used to assist the flow of traffic on the diversion route at the junction of Brambridge and Highbridge Road if necessary. Southern Water are contacting local residents and businesses and have consulted with the police, emergency services, public transport operators, local schools and Hampshire County Council, Eastleigh Borough Council and Winchester City Council. In addition the Road Freight Haulage Association and the ports of Southampton and Portsmouth have also been informed of the works in order to encourage ‘through traffic’ HGV’s to remain on the motorways. As before the works will be closely monitored to ensure that disruption is minimised as far as possible. I hope this information is useful. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries. Best Regards, Street Works Manager Hampshire County Highways Hampshire County Council
