The latest from the RCMP in todays Telegram. They are listening to us now but are they doing anything or just trying to appease the Public? They officially ruled out the car but now say they arent ruling out the car. Whats going on? Justice Minister met with RCMP and is now sounding like an RCMP employee, using their language. Share your thoughts - they matter more now than ever! From the Telegram: Police cannot comment on ‘ruling out’ or ‘ruling in’ any potential evidence in Dana Bradley case Tara Bradbury and Glen Whiffen, Published on November 1, 2014 The RCMP on Friday responded to recent Telegram stories concerning the ongoing murder investigation into the 1981 death of St. John’s teenager Dana Bradley, and a call from the public and former RCMP investigators to excavate a car a man claims is linked to the murder. Senior RCMP officials, including the head of criminal operations and the lead investigator in the case, agreed to a Telegram request to meet with reporters Friday morning. The RCMP said it is as committed as ever to determining who is responsible for the death of 14-year old Dana, and that it is aware of the recent focus and concern in the public about excavating the cars. “It is clear that there has been significant media focus on one particular piece of possible, I stress possible, evidence,” RCMP Sgt. Boyd Merrill said. “I will confirm that this has been an area of review for the RCMP, as well. I can also confirm we are taking into consideration this possibility within the context of all known facts. “If there is no apparent action, that does not mean the police are not listening or moving forward.” The car in question is alleged by a man The Telegram has named Robert, to protect his identity, to have been involved in the murder. As The Telegram first reported last March, Robert says he was a passenger in the car, which belonged to his father, as a small child, when a family friend used it to pick up Dana as she was hitchhiking along Topsail Road. Her body was found four days later, and Robert says he witnessed her brutal death. An autopsy revealed she died from a blow to the head. The car — along with another car owned by Robert’s father which matches descriptions given by witnesses — was later buried. Robert’s father gave the vehicles to a neighbour who was looking for fill to level a piece of land. Recently, a group of retired RCMP investigators and a forensic blood stain expert sent a document to the RCMP outlining why it feels it’s important to have the vehicle excavated for forensic testing. When Assistant Commissioner Tracy Hardy, RCMP commanding officer in Newfoundland and Labrador, replied to the group saying police would not dig up the car, the group sent its request to Justice and Public Safety Minister Judy Manning. Manning told The Telegram in a statement earlier this week the RCMP has been forthcoming regarding its past and ongoing work with the investigation. “We are confident that the highest levels of the RCMP within the province are carefully monitoring the file, that it is in fact an active file and that all incoming information is thoroughly analyzed and appropriately acted upon,” she said. A news release issued by the RCMP later Friday afternoon said it wanted to clarify for the public that the murder file is, and has always been, an open and active investigation. “Police personnel are diligently gathering, analyzing and comparing information against known facts,” the release states. “We have obtained these facts through thorough investigation of this matter. “It is well-known and understood avenues of investigation, operation plans and investigation challenges cannot be shared publicly. It is important to understand police cannot comment on ‘ruling out’ or ‘ruling in’ any potential gathering of evidence in this investigation, now, or in the future.” Anyone with information related to the Dana Bradley murder is asked to contact the RCMP or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
