The latest news - the Wanganui River has burst the banks at the bottom of Anzac Parade - more houses may need to be evacuated. The river should peak about 1.00 am - but the problem now is the water coming from pretty much all of the central North Island dumping on the Wanganui catchment area. Hopefully when I wake up in the morning things will have eased. Had no rain for 5 or 6 hours now so that it good. Hope I can sleep without worrying, even though we are pretty safe where we are. But - you never know!
