The latest phrase in Nigerias lexicon is “Servant Leadership”. Abians shall witness this in its truest form. We are determined to demonstrate to Abians, home and abroad, that government exists to serve the citizens. Abia State from May 29, 2011 will enjoy the company of a government that fully serves its people. Our government shall be one that is truly inspired and determined to leave an enduring legacy in every facet of life. You can call us the Legacy Government. Every activity would be situated in time and space. We shall not, for example, award contracts and go to sleep. The roadmap of implementation will be an essential part of all contracts, such as weekly, monthly and yearly performance evaluation. In pursuit of this, we shall insist on a new value re-orientation that will mainstream the ethics of time consciousness, honesty, integrity, and hardwork. We shall lead by example. And there shall be effective representation of women and youths in all government appointments and activities. Abia will strive to be in the forefront of women empowerment. We hope to meet the 30% minimum representation of women in government recommended by the Beijing Declaration. Moreso, Abia youths will not just be treated as leaders of tomorrow, as their “tomorrow” will begin the day we take over the reigns of government. We shall encourage Abia youths to participate in the governance of the state. For example, every Local Government Council will include at least an Abia youth as a Supervisory Counsellor. Ditto other tiers of government. The problem of the dichotomy orchestrated by some self-serving politicians in the state is accentuated by the lack of equity in resource allocation. We hope to correct this anomaly through the application of Principles of Need, Fairness and Equity in the distribution of government appointments and projects across the State. We strongly believe that we are one people despite our bloated diversity. Our government promises to be fair and equitable to all communities within the State. Through our deliberate policy of transforming Abia into the financial, industrial, commercial, diplomatic and cultural capital of the South East, we will open more opportunities for a majority of Abians. Our mission for a holistic development of Abia is anchored on creating and sustaining a positive convergence between the vast human/material resources in the state, her strategic location as the nearest Igbo State to the sea and current global technological trends. Abia can only develop if we take the right steps, if we do the right things.
