The latest piece of propaganda coming from the Israeli hasbara machine is the mass reporting on a failed field trip to Israel that had been offered to a group of Palestinian children who were orphaned when their parents were killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza. What Israel is calling a failed attempt at normalization with Palestine caused by Hamas is nothing more than a cheap publicity stunt organized by Israel. The sole purpose of this trip was propaganda from the get go. If Israel had real concern for these children it would not have offered a play day in Israel designed to embarrass Hamas. Israel would have been better served to provide compensation for their losses, or at least provide for their care in an already challenged system of care in Gaza. The Israelis knew from the start that this effort would fail - in fact, it was designed with failure in mind.... but now the online propaganda machine is spreading this story like wildfire on Twitter and in the mainstream press. It is an attempt to divert attention from the real issues - war crimes committed during the summer attacks - allegations by rights groups of crimes committed again children and their caregivers - the delays in the movement of construction materials through borders - cease fire violations - continuing construction of settlements. On the anniversary of Operation Cast Lead and with the impact of the summer attacks still painfully unresolved, it is a nasty attempt by Israel to once again cast the Hamas in the role of the bad guys and to cast the Israelis in the role of saviors. How many times do they plan to slam the door in the face of Hamas, a legitimate political organization, without getting kicked in the head. Sadly the media is having a field day with this story.
