Simply connect to it via Wi-Fi, load the Smartphone App, throw it into the water (tethered to a fishing line ideally), and the fish finder will transmit fish location and fish size data back to an Android or iOS equipped Smartphone/Tablet. In technical terms, the Wi-Fi transducer will pulse a sound wave outwards, the returned echoes are transmitted to the App. Water temperature readings are also viewable through the App which may help in boat positioning.
