The latest update on the fire as at 5pm from QFES Eleven Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are at the scene of a vegetation fire burning in the vicinity of Billabong Estate, south-west of Glen Eden (south of Gladstone). The fire is now contained and under control, posing no threat to properties. Crews are working to strengthen containment lines by conducting back burning operations near Kirkwood Road and Glen Eden Drive and will remain on scene into the evening. A large smoke haze is still affecting a number of Glen Eden suburbs and smoke and flames will continue to be visible into the evening. Residents are advised to shut windows and doors and those who suffer from respiratory illnesses should keep medications close by. Motorists are advised to drive to conditions and be mindful of emergency services personnel operating in the area.
