The latest weather forecasts look like this latest storm could be as big - or bigger - than the blizzard of 2013. A few things Id like the people of Middletown to know and keep in mind as we head into this storm: -Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary; additional cars on the road during blizzard conditions means people getting stuck and making roads more difficult to clear. -I have been communicating throughout the weekend with the Emergency Management Department and Public Works in regards to storm preparation and activation of our emergency operations plan. Well finalize plans tomorrow morning and be ready to adapt as circumstances require. Well also be in touch with the State EOC and Governor Malloys office. -We will continue to monitor the forecasts as they could change for the better or for the worse. -As appropriate, Ill be updating you directly through our reverse call system, social media, and the news media. -We have re-filled salt and sand stores and are at 100% capacity. -Since the 2013 blizzard we purchased an additional $45,000 snow blower that attaches to our front end loaders. We only had two of these in the last storm. -We have 32 large, multi-ton plows in the Department of Public Works, an additional 6 in the Water Department and up to a dozen contractors available. -We are responsible for clearing more than 200 miles of roads; for a sense of perspective, thats slightly shorter than if we stretched our plowing routes into one straight line between Middletown, Connecticut and Middletown, Delaware. Above all, be safe! Ill be in touch throughout the storm. Have a great day, everyone!
