The left turn into Universal Drive from Studio Drive has been in - TopicsExpress

The left turn into Universal Drive from Studio Drive has been in place for many years (part of the measures introduced to help reduce speeding and rat running along Universal Way). To me the signage, and raised kerb, make it pretty clear that there is only access for the oneway traffic traveling Northbound to exit Universal Street onto the roundabout. However, recently the QPS has issued numerous tickets ($150) for motorists making the illegal left hand hook turn. This morning our office received a request to improve the signage to make it clearer that this is illegal... and to re-open the left turn. Happy to ask about additional signage, but based on previous advice from traffic engineers, there are no plans to reopen the roundabout access (largely due to likely negative impacts on functioning of the roundabout at entry to Pacific Pines). In fact, following another resident request from last week, traffic engineers are currently providing advice on the possibility of closing the existing oneway access from Universal onto the roundabout all together. Due to the number of users of Universal Way nothing will happen regarding a closure without further consultation to the residents of Studio Village, Gaven Heights, Pacific Pines. We have put in a request to look at the timing of lights along Binstead Way (up to the M1), as well as a request to see if an additional left turn lane could to added to help with the congestion near the intersection at the entry to the M1 / Entertainment Drive. Finally, there are no plans in place to extend Studio Drive through the privately owned Village Roadshow land to join with Entertainment Drive to create a new Southern exit out of Studio Village.
