The legislation offered in 2011 cost $447 billion. Below is a “dear colleague” letter Rep. Wilson is sending around to gather co-sponsors: Dear Colleague: It’s been 22 months since President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress to unveil the American Jobs Act, his comprehensive and cost-effective plan to create upwards of 1.9 million jobs. In those 22 months, the Republican leadership in Congress has not only allowed the bill to expire but also ignored all of the substantive job-creation policies it contained. By pursuing sequestration and the Ryan budget, Republican leaders have taken the exact opposite course of action. The cost has been weak economic growth, foreclosed homes, stagnant careers, wasted talent, and broken dreams. We can do better. I write today to ask for your co-sponsorship of an updated version of the American Jobs Act. In addition to updated provisions of President Obama’s bill—which, according to independent analysis by Moody’s, would create up to 1.9 million jobs and boost growth by two percent—the bill includes a new provision to cancel sequestration for fiscal years 2014-2021. The bill fights unemployment in three primary ways: · Preventing public-sector layoffs and creating pathways to hire people to build roads, hi-tech infrastructure, and schools · Cutting taxes for struggling people and small businesses in order to boost consumer spending and new hiring · Strengthening the safety net for Americans affected by lingering impacts of the Great Recession While Republican leaders in Congress act as though the Great Recession is long gone, America’s 11.8 million unemployed—and tens of millions more underemployed and underpaid—know better. Take a stand for these Americans by supporting this bill. Crew of 42 crewof42/featured/rep-wilson-set-to-re-introduce-obamas-jobs-bill/
