You see unlike AV Management and State Liberal-National Government we respect the hard working compassionate paramedics who work their butts off trying to help everyday people. Hi All I am posting this, because I think Victorian Politics has gone so low that it appears that the State Liberal-National Government of Victoria supported by its bureaucracy are now using a deliberate tactic of producing false letters to discredit paramedics. For the last two years, the Government has gone to war with paramedics, fire fighters, nurses and a range of other emergency and health providers in an effort to cut wages and conditions. In this case, a dispute with paramedics is now in the third year, and the government and Ambulance Victoria have walked out of negotiations. What are the two sticking points; 1. Union Facilitation - ie: The employer and government want to remove the right of a paramedic to have representation if they are undergoing a discipline or other meeting. In other words, a lone paramedic (worker) has to face a panel of managers and HR and defend themselves. Is that fair? Who would agree to this? No pay rise is worth this loss of condition and human right! 2. Rural reserve. That a paramedic can be sent to any place in the state of Victoria with 28 days notice to fill a gap for a unlimited time. No expense assistance from the employer. Placements can be up to 700-800 km from the paramedics home and family. Again who is going to agree to this? Is it fair? Where is the work-family balance? There is a fair system in place at the moment called Rural relievers where paramedics volunteer to be moved around the state. They are given accommodation, a meal allowance, and a travel allowance for taking their own car. Most who volunteer for this position are usually single people want to move around the place and can gain experience in a range of locations, IT WORKS, IT IS VOLUNTARY AND NO ONE IS FORCED INTO THE POSITION OF LEAVING THEIR FAMILY!! Listen to the recording your self and make a judgement if the Government, Ambulance Victoria and Department of Health Victoria are playing fair. Paramedics are consistently being called Union Thugs by the Health Minister Mr Davis - who are the thugs in this situation? I feel very hurt and disappointed at this behaviour.
