The lifeboat was called out yesterday to assist the SAR helicopter, Rescue 116, in the medical evacuation of a casualty from Inishturk Island. We all wish the patient a speedy recovery. While this callout was taking place there was a serious road traffic accident which occurred a short distance from the lifeboat station involving a person and a quad bike. The lifeboat crew who were at the station were able to render first aid before the ambulance and the doctor arrived. Achill Coast Guard Unit, who had just finished a training exercise nearby, also gave assistance as did the local Fire Brigade Unit and the Gardai.
