The lights went out in the dessert and didnt come back on for - TopicsExpress

The lights went out in the dessert and didnt come back on for south west Texsas. Vacationers who had travelled from all parts of the globe, in search of warmth, suddenly and without warning, found themselves in the cold. The gas ran out, as people waited on a massive winter ice storm, that froze all the escape routes out of the Big Bend. Businesses struggled to keep the doors open while the post office worked completely in the dark. Three days it took for the roads to be cleared allowing for a fuel delivery to the gas station. Stranded people, some of whom camped out at the station to be first inline for fuel, to leave, waited for days. By day five the sound of generators disturbing the quiet tranquility of remoteness has become common everywhere. Day six the water has run out. For some mysterious reason, or gross negligence the water department here has no working generator to run the well pump, adding to the hardship of those who stayed here to tough it out. I remember this last year watching a NatGeo show about the power grid going down. I believe it was called Ten Days, this being how long their imagined outage would last. In it the movie portrays mass pandemonium, as the states barrel head on into a mad max nightmare. As of the morning of Day Six in this real world event, no murders, robberies, or violence of any sort, has taken place to the best of my knowledge. People didnt get violent when the gas arrived, or when the residence found the water to would soon be gone. The grocery store stayed open and stocked, running the minimum electric from generators as staff worked by headlamp light, seemingly UN affected by the outage. People are still hopefully and cheerful, with out any display or worry, expressing thoughts of almost indifference to the events. Why? Better, How is this possible the complete opposite from what has been predicted you may be asking yourselves as I have? Everyone here was prepared for this to happen, had back up food, water, personal electric generation, and other necessities. From time to time theses things happen out here in an area known to locals as the vortex. Weather routinely gets trapped between the mountain ranges and sits and spins. For the herd its just an other day, we always have to be prepared and fuel is not a concern. Green grass, clear springs, tranquil rides, sunny days, this is our world, unaffected by the world we ride through.
