The livability of Grand Lake, Colorado shines through as it is named the most authentic small town in the U.S. The western gateway to the Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake is one of only four communities targeted for participation in the Federal Land Livability Initiative and its involvement has already borne fruit through with on-the-ground projects and national attention. The Funds Conservation Leadership Network has worked with Grand Lake and other communities to strengthen livability capacity as part of the Federal Lands Livability Initiative. Through a partnership with the Federal Lands Livability Workgroup, comprised of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the National Park Service (NPS) and other land management agencies, CLN assesses trends in livability associated with federal public lands and their surrounding gateway communities. This initiative includes a mix of public lands, refuges, forests and parks from a geographic and demographic cross section of the country.
