The "living wage" movement marches on, determined that no one should actually be paid the minimum wage mandated by federal and state laws. The latest manifestation is a pressure group funded by left-wing foundations - and taxpayer grants - to assault restaurants with Occupy Wall Street-style tactics, demanding higher wages, and portraying business owners as heartless profiteers for resisting. A philosophy that depends upon treating people who obey the law as criminals, and describing those who provide employment as thieves, is heading down a very dark path. Unemployment is far too high as it is, and far too much of the job creation during the Obama years has depended on the sort of part-time restaurant work that the media once found extremely disturbing. The last thing we need is for employers to become more reluctant to hire people.
