The local flour mill, did the tour today. When the waterwheel - TopicsExpress

The local flour mill, did the tour today. When the waterwheel powered up you could feel the torque resonating throughout the building, it was impressive. Unfortunately the apprentice miller had not figured out a problem with unfamiliar grain so he had to shut off the wheel immediately to prevent possible damage by running the grindstones without grain. That can lead to problems like sparks that can burn the mill down or at least damage the milling face of the stones. Later, he told us that he thinks the grain was too damp to flow out of the hopper system. We will go back and see it again, probably many times. Its cool, when you want to buy some flour just go a few miles down the road to a mill that has been operating for some 3 centuries, with local grain and friendly personal service. This is the 3rd mill building on this site, it was expanded for growing population and newer technology. It now belongs to the local township, I think its a wonderful setup.
