The longest Dream Theater opener of all time, even more than The Glass Prison, is almost as much of a pure roller coaster of adrenalin. Similarly, it is based off a real-life event, the car accident which nearly killed a child John Petrucci. Its instrumental sections follow up from the recovery from sedation in the ER by building off each other and amassing into chaotic, then outright mental stretches of sound. The alien sound of Jordan Rudess shredding Moog (?) at 9:56 piles notes on top of each other at lightning speed until one is indistinct from the rest, all of them echoing and clashing with each other. It is the musicalization of the crash victim sporadically waking up in the night with PTSD episodes, screaming in terror. They are nightmares even more to remember than the crash itself.
