“The loss of a baby before or after birth is devastating for families,” said Glenn Breen, Coordinating Chaplain for Spiritual Health at the IWK Health Centre. “As they deal with their grief, some parents have found it helpful to share their loss with others who had similar experiences and the Walk to Remember is a great way to bring these families together.” Every day, a family in Nova Scotia experiences the pain of losing a child as a result of miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal loss. October 15, was Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day in Nova Scotia. To honour those little lives lost, parents and families will be taking to the streets to participate in Halifax’s sixth annual Walk to Remember on Sunday, October 19, 2014. In 2009, to honour the memory of their precious babies, Tina Thibeau Foley, Natashia Hope, Stacey MacLean and Caitlin Oakley partnered with the IWK Health Centre to organize Halifaxs first Walk to Remember. For women and their families, participating in this special day is a way to honour the memory of their babies and to share their grief with other families who have experienced similar tragedies. “I wanted to be involved in the walk because I feel it gives people a chance to celebrate the life of their child who never got to be a part of their life here on earth and to raise awareness of pregnancy and infant loss,” said Stacey MacLean, one of the walk committee organizers. The Halifax Walk to Remember Committee is partnering with the Spiritual Health Team at the IWK Health Centre to organize the Walk for parents and families in the Halifax area. “The loss of a baby before or after birth is devastating for families,” said Glenn Breen, Coordinating Chaplain for Spiritual Health at the IWK Health Centre. “As they deal with their grief, some parents have found it helpful to share their loss with others who had similar experiences and the Walk to Remember is a great way to bring these families together.” Join the walk Date: Sunday, October 19, 2014 Time: Walk starts at 2:00 p.m. (registration starts at 1:15 p.m.) Location: Dr. Richard B.
